Girls Rock Math

About Summer 2020

Registration to the public will open June 1.

Join us for Girls Rock Math C.A.M.P, a hands-on, engaging and fun GRM experience that can be with you wherever you are this summer!

So what is C.A.M.P?
It’s Creative Art & Math Projects, sent directly to your door!

With Girls Rock Math C.A.M.P your camper will experience empowering community building and confidence boosting math activities, art, games and social learning. C.A.M.P will consist of the following:

  • 1. A Math + Art = Fun kit sent to your home chock full of craft supplies, materials for our math investigations, games, and some other extra special goodies!
  • 2. Online programming including small group math activities led by certified teachers, games, songs, art projects, scavenger hunts, and lots of social interaction.
  • 3. A program guide with ideas to extend the fun beyond the camp day as well as extra materials to do a special Family C.A.M.P. project (this is a nod to all the parents who have said they wished they could have gone to Girls Rock Math as a kid!)

One of the sayings you might hear GRM staff say or have read in our materials is “This is camp, not school!” While learning is definitely happening, our academic approach is different from what they get during the school year. We infuse fun and creativity in everything we do. And while we know online learning hasn’t been easy for many, we believe we can do camp in a new, meaningful and powerful way. I mean, we have kids begging to do math in the summer year after year. I know we can elevate the online experience to have kids asking, “can I go back to C.A.M.P next week?”
C.A.M.P. Themes
We picked our C.A.M.P themes based on what would be best to do at home, and what translates easiest to an online experience. To make C.A.M.P easy for parents our virtual camp system will allow campers to log on and parents to walk away! All they need is our Box of Fun, a table to work on, and a device.

What does the day look like?
C.A.M.P will be a mix of group games and activities, crafting and mathing in small groups as well as story-driven investigations where campers problem-solve, puzzle and challenge themselves and one another with mathematical thinking and problem solving.

Girls will gather together with counselors from our teen leadership program for the daily Circle-Up, a special time for social emotional learning and discussion- we talk confidence, STEM careers, lifting one another up and loving our unique selves. And of course, we wrap up the camp day with reflection, songs and our Girlafesto!

If you aren’t able to make part of the day, we will have online tutorials available with our craft projects so everyone can try their hand at some math-art!

Small Groups:
For instruction and discussion groups led by our certified teachers, younger campers will work in groups of 6 and older campers will be in groups of 8. If your child is attending camp with a friend, we will keep the kids together for C.A.M.P too!

Technology:
We will be using a virtual camp software that allows our campers to log on safely and securely. Once campers are logged in, there is nothing else you’ll need to do. No switching between websites or downloading software or uploading files. You will just click and connect to Girls Rock Math C.A.M.P!

Once we open up C.A.M.P to the public the fees will be $225 per week Siblings who can attend the same theme and share a screen (for example, siblings in 3rd and 5th grade) may attend for $75.
